The first week in August Rachel and I are going to New York for a wedding. I'm pretty excited about it since I've never been to New York. Also, since Rachel is in the wedding we are going to the rehearsal dinner and the post-wedding brunch the day after the ceremony so I'm looking forward to seeing some places that native New Yorkers think are cool enough to have their wedding it not to mention the free food. Oh, and the actual wedding is in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens which are supposed to be beautiful too so I'm looking forward to that as well.
For this trip we decided to do something a little different and we're going to drive out there rather than fly. The main reason we're doing this is because last summer we went on a road trip out in the Pacific Northwest and had a lot of fun and we're hoping to repeat the experience, although in a very different setting. I mean, sure, we do save a little money compared to flying there but surprisingly not that much; not with gas prices they way they are. What is nice is that we built in enough time that we are going to see things along the way. We're going to be very lazy and turn a 13 hour drive into two days of travel. It just made sense since I know I don't want to drive 7 hours in one day and I don't think Rachel did either. This way we've broken up the trip into two 6.5 hour days (3 hours and 15mins of driving each) that allows us to stop in different cities along the way. Thus far we're going to stop in Oberlin, OH which is where Rachel went to College, Pittsburgh (where we are going to stay over night on the way there), Philadelphia (just to see it), New York (of course) and then Cleveland on the way back (where we are going to stay over night). I know that with the exception of New York it's not like we're visiting places with these exceptional international reputations but I know each place has something worth seeing in it and who knows we might like one of them enough that we'll go back some other time and stay longer - that is certainly what happened when we were in the Pacific Northwest (Who knew that Portland, OR was so awesome!).
So as a part of our New York experience Rachel and decided we wanted to try and see a taping of a TV show and we immediately thought of either Conan O'Brian or The Daily Show. Conan is off for the summer so we couldn't get tickets but The Daily Show, being a basic cable show and all, was up and running and it looks like we have tickets. You never know because they over book these shows and even though you have a ticket it's still first come first serve and some folks with tickets will get turned away. I guess that's how they ensure full seats every night. We're supposed to show up an hour and a half before taping to see if we can get in but I think it's worth it. I've never seen a TV show taped before and I really love the Daily Show so if standing around in the street is that it takes count me in.

I am thinking that we need to take a vacation. Just suck it up, spend the money and take the time and get the heck away from everything for awhile.

I did. ;)
Also, you may want to get there waaaaay before the suggested arrival time for lining up for the Daily Show. I don't know how it works in NYC, but in California, people start waiting in the morning for a taping in the evening. There's literally a line for the line.
You know what you could do, though, is do a trial run, by checking things out at the taping the day before yours. See how early the line forms. You can get an idea of how early you'd need to be there.
Your trip sounds fun. When you're in Philadelphia, be sure to check behind that loose brick for Ben Franklin's magic glasses.

Wait, what's this about? It sounds cool.
Also, your idea about checking out the line before hand it a good one. Maybe we'll have to do that.
